Location: Islamabad, Pakistan (3 days in Office 6 PM to 3 AM)
Reports To: Head of Compliance
Client: U.S.-based Research Platform
About Outsentia
Outsentia is a global talent and operations partner helping companies build high-performing offshore teams in regions like Pakistan. From sales and customer success to engineering and research support, we help our clients find top talent and scale quickly, without compromising quality.
Our mission is to bridge exceptional global talent with fast-growing companies that need flexible, reliable, and cost-effective support.
We are currently hiring on behalf of one of our clients, a U.S.-based research platform that leverages expert insights to produce institutional-grade investment research for financial services firms globally.
Role Overview
Join a U.S.-based research platform as a Compliance Associate dedicated to the Healthcare sector. Reporting into the Head of Compliance, you will play a critical role in ensuring adherence to internal policies, investment research compliance standards, and regulatory requirements specific to healthcare-focused research, including pharmaceuticals, biotech, medical devices, healthcare services, and payors.
You will work in close partnership with the client's Healthcare Sector Head and the wider healthcare research team, providing dedicated compliance coverage across their expert engagements, research reports, and workflows. The role offers hands-on experience in risk management, compliance monitoring, due diligence, and conflict-of-interest checks, all applied to the highly nuanced world of healthcare investment research.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Compliance Screening & Risk Assessment
- Conduct background checks and due diligence on prospective healthcare experts (physicians, KOLs, former pharma/biotech executives, payor and provider leaders) to assess fitness for engagements and identify potential risks or conflicts.
- Perform internet-based and AI-assisted research and investigations on flagged concerns, including HCP affiliations, publication history, and industry ties.
- Identify and escalate compliance issues to the Head of Compliance, ensuring alignment with SEC regulations and healthcare-specific standards (e.g., MNPI concerns around clinical trial data, FDA decisions, M&A activity).
- Conduct personal and financial conflict-of-interest checks on healthcare experts to mitigate risks.
- Apply insider trading and conflicts concepts in judgment-call situations — with particular sensitivity to healthcare-specific catalysts (trial readouts, PDUFA dates, label changes, reimbursement decisions).
- Assess risks around confidential, proprietary, and material non-public information (MNPI) in the healthcare context.
- Enforce and update compliance policies and procedures with guidance from the Head of Compliance.
2. Compliance Monitoring & Report Review
- Review and edit dense, technical healthcare investment research reports (equity research, therapy-area primers, company deep dives) to ensure compliance with SEC regulations and applicable healthcare research guidelines.
- Consult with the Head of Compliance and healthcare analysts when conducting report reviews to ensure strict adherence to insider trading rules.
- Review expert call transcripts and recordings of healthcare consultations to ensure adherence to compliance guidelines.
- Attend live consultations (as a "chaperone") with healthcare experts and analysts to ensure compliance, and document each event.
- Maintain careful records of compliance monitoring, audits, and escalated issues.
- Analyze expert engagement records in the portal system, identifying healthcare-specific areas of concern (e.g., current-employer conflicts, restricted-list overlaps).
- Maintain compliance records and support internal audits in the portal system.
- Partner with the Healthcare Sector Head and cross-functional teams to provide real-time compliance guidance under the direction of the Head of Compliance.
3. Project Management, Communication & Special Projects
- Manage compliance-related tasks efficiently and with accuracy across the healthcare book.
- Work closely with the Head of Compliance and the Healthcare Sector Head to enhance compliance workflows through frequent and effective communication.
- Support the Head of Compliance in disseminating industry best practices to research teams.
- Prepare materials on updated industry regulations (SEC, global research compliance standards, and healthcare-specific regulatory developments) to refine compliance frameworks.
- Support additional healthcare-related compliance projects as needed.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Education & Experience
- Graduate/Postgraduate with 1–5 years of experience in securities/Wall Street compliance, due diligence, legal, or risk advisory.
- Experience in legal or compliance at a law firm, investment firm, research firm, financial services entity, or expert network is highly preferred.
- Prior exposure to the healthcare sector (pharma, biotech, medical devices, healthcare services, or health policy) is a strong plus — either through prior work, education, or demonstrated interest.
Research & Analytical Skills
- Strong research and analytical abilities to detect, evaluate, and assess potential and actual conflicts, risks, and compliance concerns.
- Ability to efficiently review and issue-spot call transcripts, expert engagements, and dense healthcare-specific reports.
Compliance Knowledge (Preferred)
- Familiarity with SEC, FINRA, and other U.S. financial regulations and case law related to investment research compliance.
- Understanding of insider trading concepts, confidential and proprietary information, actual and potential conflicts of interest, and financial/investment research.
- Awareness of healthcare-specific compliance considerations (e.g., HIPAA-adjacent considerations, physician engagement norms, clinical trial disclosure rules) is a plus.
Communication & Collaboration
- Fluency in English (verbal and written) with strong interpersonal skills for cross-team collaboration.
- Ability to communicate compliance and legal concepts and risks clearly and concisely to healthcare analysts, experts, and senior leadership.
Organizational & Time Management
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment tied to healthcare catalysts and earnings cycles.
- High attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in compliance reviews and risk assessments.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for compliance documentation and reporting.
- Experience with compliance monitoring tools, risk databases, or research compliance platforms is a plus.
